I know any number of experts would answer me and say “why no one at the moment you fool!”.  However from my own experience in my small corner of Spain I have to disagree.  Buyers are not the mythological entities you may have been lead to believe – a variety of people are still actively looking to buy in Spain.

I read articles about buyers in Spain that imply that there is now only one main buyer – the ‘lifestyle buyer’ – looking for a country house with a huge plot for a few thousand euros.  Understandably this makes sellers of any type of property feel pretty disheartened.

I can only speak for my ‘patch’, the Costa Calida in Murcia, but I can say that from our client base this is simply not the case.

During the past three weeks we have spoken to the following potential buyers:

  • A young family looking for a small family home near the airport so they can live here and the father can commute to the UK.
  • A larger family looking for a larger style holiday home where they can get together to relax and enjoy family time – garage and pool essential!
  • A couple who would like a holiday apartment near the coast.
  • A gentleman who would like an apartment he can rent out during the summer and use himself during the winter – a long term investment.
  • A family looking for a finca with business potential.
  • A professional couple looking for a ‘bolt hole’ near Murcia airport for short breaks.
  • An investor investigating the potential ‘bargains’ available in the area.

Over the years this area has always attracted a good mix of buyers and I could have drawn up a similar list three years ago.  The two main differences would have been the greater number of people on the list and there would have been more people looking specifically for off-plan investments.

Only a fool would deny there are a reduced number of buyers, but they are still out there and they still have diverse requirements
